Go Ask Lara #6

Dear Lara,
I just came back from extensive traveling outside of the U.S. I don’t feel well.  I feel sluggish and not here.  I don’t want to spend the money to see a naturopath or herbalist. What can I do on my own?
Thanks,
T. O. in Washington

Dear T.O.,
You did not mention where you went, but I suspect you ate a lot of cooked foods that lacked fresh fruits and vegetables.  Sounds like you are dealing with an acidic condition and need to cleanse and become more alkaline. Don’t fret. You can heal yourself relatively easily and let food be thy medicine.  You don’t have to spend any extra money on pills or cleansing kits, although a juicer is a good investment.  You can buy a used juicer that is good enough.   You don’t have to bother with one that can extract the juice out of grasses, just get one that can extract the juice from kale and chard, etc.

Eat as much fresh organic salads as you can, both vegetable and fruit.  However, limit your fruit sugar intake.  If you have any parasites, they will crave sweetness.  Vegetable juices, salads and stir fry are good.  Listen to which green vegetables your body craves.  Add beets, but limit your carrots and other sweet vegetables.  Limit your sweet sugary intake and go for the greens instead.  Nut butter on celery for snack, tart apple, lots of water.  You might also need more water.  Don’t drink other drinks when your body wants water.  Don’t drink it too cold, either.

Affirm that you are thankful for the amount of health that you do have.  Focus on what is going right instead of focusing on problems.  Be thankful for the clean, healthy organic food that your body craves.  Some seasonings are also anti-parasitic and good for cleansing liver.  Try turmeric and paprika and all sorts of herbs as your salad dressing with olive oil.  Stay away from bottled dressings.  Herbs are medicinal so creating a dressing from them is a great idea.

When you drink a lot of water throughout the day, you might want to add chlorophyll to make it more medicinal. They sell mint flavored ones in health food stores or online.  If you juice limes and lemons, add ice and a small amount of an alternative healthy sweetener like stevia or a bit of maple syrup, then  blend it all, it makes a very tasty alkalinizing and refreshing drink.  If you have spearmint leaves, add handful.  If you are in a cold climate, add lemon or lime to warm water.
Once you start to cleanse with this food, you will want to eat more of it. When you begin to feel better quickly, you will see the benefits and keep adding more organics to your regimen.  Ginger is a good cleanser as well.  Add to juices, stir fry, float in water, and grate in salads.  You cannot go wrong with it, unless it is coated with white sugar.

This will be an inexpensive way to get yourself back on a healthy track.  Once healthy, you will desire more and more ways to continue to improve your health. Good health begets good health.  Then other parts of your life follow.  You become healthier in many ways.

I wish you good health and green living,

Lara
